Our highly trained instructors will take you on board our World War II C-47 as a student, and you'll get practical experience flying a C-47 as well as one hour of instructional logbook endorsement. Experience not necessary! , Today, I had the opportunity to fly with the greatest generation aircraft in an old World War II C-47 at Ft. Worth it, Texas. The Greatest Generation aircraft is on a hangar at the Vintage Flying Museum. Greatest Generation Aircraft doesn't just fly in Ft. All year round Worth it, but they also go to airshows and present flights there.

The Southern Cross was built in 1941 as an airliner for TWA. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the aircraft was called upon to carry troops and serve in the military during World War II and during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

It changed hands several times after the war. It was restored to its original passenger transport purpose shortly after the war. It was owned by Chicago and Southern Airlines until 1953 when the airline and all of its aircraft were acquired by Delta Air Lines. It flew under Delta Air Lines until it was purchased by the President of Mexico. The aircraft was completely redesigned to reflect its presidential status at the time, with new upgraded engines.

After the presidential campaign, the plane was sold to a skydiving company and dismantled to make the plane lighter enough to accommodate a plane full of skydivers.

The aircraft was owned by several private groups until it passed to Greatest Generation Aircraft Corporation, where it was restored to its original condition.

Check-in for my flight was easy and after a quick security briefing we loaded our bags into the back of the plane and boarded the 30 minute flight. The takeoff was smooth and our maximum altitude was about 1000 feet as we took off at Dallas/Ft. worth the horizon. The passenger seat is on the left side of the aircraft and the jump seat is on the right side, as this aircraft is also used from time to time for military skydiving exercises (static line). The interior of the aircraft contains the signatures of many soldiers, along with their rank, service, years of service, and the wars they fought in or where they were stationed. It's amazing to see how far back the dates go.

The flight was smooth and the landing smooth too! Later, I can walk around the hanger and photograph the other battleships. It was a great experience and if you love history as much as I do then you must check this place out!
