For this list, we considered the military leaders and tactics that have most influenced the world. These are the strategists and warriors who defied the greatest odds and built the greatest empires.
#10: Sun Tzu You know a man was a great military leader when his entire philosophies of war and martial strategy were based on a book he wrote. Living between 544 BC and 496 BC, Sun Tzu was a military leader and tactician in ancient China whose victories in battle inspired him to write his masterpiece The Art of War. This book will be a reference for military leaders to this day. Legend has it that Sun Tzu was commissioned to create soldiers from a harem of royal consorts. Joan was sent to help lift the siege of Orleans and did it in just nine days. After several victories, he was captured by the English allies, tried and burned at the stake. His ability to combine political knowledge with sharp military strategy fueled his rise, leading to the creation of the Roman Empire.

He was a French military leader who rose to power during the French Revolution, proclaiming himself emperor in 1804. On the battlefield, Napoleon used highly mobile cannons to pound his opponents before delivering the killing blow with his elite troops. . Under Napoleon, the goal was not only defeat, but destruction. In addition to his military victories, Napoleon is also known for his Civil Code which created a set of laws that would hasten the end of feudalism in Europe and influence law in much of the world.

#3: Hannibal Barca General of Carthage During the First and Second Punic Wars with Rome, Hannibal was one of the few military leaders to achieve success against the Roman Republic.
